I found this pretty cool infographics today. I assume no explanation is needed.

How much paper coffee cups are used

16 billion cups are used in America each year.

  • 1 paper cup a day = 23 lbs of waste into a landfill a year.
  • It could fill six thousand Olympic-siezd swimming pools.
  • Material used to produce all 16 billion cups
  • 1.6 milion lbs of recycled materials
  • 4 billion gallons of water
  • 6.5 million trees
  • 253 million lbs waste
  • 4 billion lbs of CO2
  • Reality of reusable coffee cups

Only 1.5% of drinks served at Starbukcs are in reusables. If every customer used a reusable tumbler, we could save: 4.4 bilion gallons of water, 1.8 million lbs of forest resources, 2.5 billion lbs of CO2.

Alternative way to utilize the lost resources

That’s more carbon dioxide than would be emitted if the entire population of San Francisco got in their cars and drobe to New York. And it’s enough water to supply all of Los Angeles for 8 days. The Plastic used in coffee cup lids is polystyrene or styrofoam. It is a carcinogen and a neurotoxin, especially when heated. it is not recyclable or biodegradable.

    Financial Benefit of reusable cups

buying coffee in Starbucks tumblers save 10 cents for every cup = $36 a year. Tumblers are designed to be used at least 3000 times = average 8 years = 189 lbs of waste saved.
